Heater box resto
A couple of posts back we showed pictures of the nasty heater box from the Mustang being disassembled.
Here we see one of the internal, cable operated flap assemblies cleaned up, painted, and new die-cut foam glued in place to restore operation.
A cable operated plenum directs air to your feet or up through 2 hoses to the defrost ducts below the windshield. The factory made the plenum (bottom) out of pressed paper - like an egg carton. It was pretty messed up and held together with duct tape. A reproduction piece (top) made of plastic is a huge improvement.
The restored heater box assembly will go back up under the dash.
When you want plain, fresh air as a passenger, you can reach under and open the little door on the right.
The cable operated plenum on the left controls whether warm air goes to your feet or up through 2 hoses to the windshield for defrost.
The red piece is an air-cooled blower motor resistor. This controls the speed of the motor on the back side - low-high. There's a lot going on inside the box that we failed to take pictures of.
