Inline 6 progress

We noticed the engine had a pretty good oil leak when we first rolled her into the garage. While a full-rebuild isn't in the budget, a light freshening and reseal is. During the partial tear-down we found someone had replaced the crankshaft rear main oil seal (the original was made of rope). There's a tiny metal pin in the main cap that keeps the rope seal from spinning. That is supposed to be removed and discarded when replacing the seal with the later rubber style. They didn't, and so the seal got squished and deformed - which you can see in the first pic below (middle of curved black piece on the right). No wonder it leaked and it would have kept up if the motor hadn't been pulled!

A new higher performance camshaft (Clay Smith) was installed and degreed. A new oil pump, water pump, gaskets etc. also go in. Once painted, it'll not only look good but keep oil and coolant INSIDE the engine.

Body work has also begun. Fenders are off for repairs and to be prepped for paint. The engine compartment is also cleaned up for a fresh black finish. It was nasty!
